Mostly fine. Afternoon showers about ranges tomorrow.
Canterbury
Cloudy from this evening with occasional light rain.
Otago and Southland
Cloudy with areas rain and cold easterlies. Snow down to 500 metres in eastern Otago and Southland today.
Buller to Fiordland
Rain, heavy at times, clearing tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Wednesday
Rain or showers in the east from Dunedin up to Wairarapa. A few showers may pop up through Nelson during the afternoon. Fine spells increasing elsewhere.
Thursday
Showers or patchy rain continue from Canterbury up to Wellington until late in the day. Fine spells predominate elsewhere, although a few showers pop up through much of the North Island. Cloud begins to build in the South Island west coast from afternoon, with some late rain for Fiordland.
Friday
Northland and the east of both islands should remain mainly fine. Showers or rain are expected to gradually develop elsewhere.

Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks:
Cloudy periods and a few showers. Snow lowering to 1500 metres tomorrow. Kaikoura Ranges: Mostly clear, but cloud developing below 1500 metres overnight. Isolated showers likely during the afternoon and early evening tomorrow.
Snow to 1500 metres.
Remaining South Island mountain areas:
Rain, falling as snow in southern Fiordland. Snow becoming widespread along the eastern slopes overnight, but falling above 1400 metres in the west. Rain slowly clearing in the west, and easing in the east tomorrow.
South Island mountain winds:
Severe gale northwesterlies from Aoraki/Mt Cook northwards, easing. Strong southeasterlies elsewhere.
Freezing Level: Lowering to 1800 metres in the north and west tomorrow, but to 1400 metres elsewhere.
